The Public Health Command (3) at Luke AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility is hiring an Animal Health Assistant NF-03 to aid veterinary care for military working animals and pets.
In this part-time role (20 hours per week), you’ll assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, administer medications and vaccinations, perform diagnostic tests, and offer client education on preventive care and husbandry.
This role is best-suited for individuals with hands-on experience in a veterinary medical setting who are comfortable with animal handling, sterile techniques, and medical recordkeeping. The role is based on Luke Air Force Base in Arizona and calls for a commitment to occasional Saturday perform for unique events.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $41,110 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for the Animal Health Assistant NF-03 post, you must have at least six months of demonstrated background in a veterinary medical setting. This expertise should involve proficiency in medical terminology, sterile techniques, animal restraint, radiological procedures, and recording medical history using ccSOAP format.
- Minimum six (6) months of demonstrated experience straight related to the responsibilities, gained through useful submission in a Veterinary Medical setting.
- Experience must display insight, clinical abilities, and aptitudes essential to perform successfully under AVMA or equivalent (e.g., VMSB) guidelines.
- Proficiency in core medical terminology.
- Ability to use correct sterile techniques.
- Skill in putting in suitable restraint techniques for routine medical and diagnostic procedures, covering right radiological techniques.
- Proficiency in recording medical history and treatment in ccSOAP (Chief Complaint Subjective Goal Assessment Strategy).
- Ability to explain offering details and/or treatment scheme to clients as directed by the veterinarian.
- Experience determining preventive wellness schemes, such as called for medical treatments and vaccinations set on patient medical history.
- Aptitude to employ in-house laboratory equipment to perform diagnostic tests and conduct routine maintenance.
- Extremely Preferred: Possess or capacity to obtain a registration, license, or certification as a veterinary assistant through an accredited plan (e.g., NAVTA).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarian in getting ready for and during surgical procedures, covering preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material.
- Monitor patients using an anesthetic machine and continuously inform medical staff of adjusts in patient condition during surgery.
- Assist as a scrubbed surgical assistant when needed.
- Get ready and administer vaccinations, oral and topical medications as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Prepare and dispense prescription medication according to veterinarian instructions.
- Put in knowledge of widespread topics to assist clients in solving typical husbandry issues.
- Provide individualized wellness counseling to clients on preventive care, disease prevention, lifestyle threats, and veterinary care.
- Use in-house laboratory equipment to perform diagnostic tests and run routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Record medical history and treatment blueprints using ccSOAP format.
- Clarify item info and treatment schemes to clients as directed by the veterinarian.

Additional Information
