Qualification

To qualify.. You must have graduated from an accredited four-year college with a bachelor's degree that meets California Secretary of Agriculture standards.. Possess a valid California County Agricultural Commissioner or Sealer of Weights and Measures license.. And have five years of increasingly responsible experience in enforcing agricultural or weights and measures laws.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a major that meets the minimum qualifications established by the California Secretary of Agriculture.
  • Possession of a valid County Agricultural Commissioner license OR County Sealer of Weights and Measures license issued by the State of California.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the enforcement of agricultural laws and regulations and/or weights and measures laws and regulations.
  • Open only to eligible employees of the Kern County Department of Agriculture and Measurement Standards (Department Promotional).
  • Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
  • Appraisal (100%) based on training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position.
Role Responsibilities

Enforce agricultural laws and regulations to ensure compliance with state and local standards.

  • Enforce weights and measures laws and regulations, including inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections related to agricultural products and commercial transactions.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on enforcement activities and findings.
  • Provide guidance and education to the public and businesses on agricultural and weights and measures requirements.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and departments on regulatory matters.
  • Participate in court proceedings and legal actions as needed.
  • Supervise or train lower-level staff as assigned.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be an eligible employee of the Kern County Department of Agriculture and Measurement Standards.

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license may be required.
  • Must pass a background investigation and/or oral exam as part of the appraisal process.
  • Ability to work in the field and office environments.
  • May be required to work occasional evenings or weekends for inspections or investigations.
