To qualify.. You must have graduated from an accredited four-year college with a bachelor's degree that meets California Secretary of Agriculture standards.. Possess a legitimate California County Agricultural Commissioner or Sealer of Weights and Measures license..

And have five years of increasingly responsible experience in enforcing agricultural or weights and measures laws.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a major that meets the minimum qualifications established by the California Secretary of Agriculture.
  • Possession of a valid County Agricultural Commissioner license OR County Sealer of Weights and Measures license issued by the State of California.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible expertise in the enforcement of agricultural laws and regulations and/or weights and measures laws and regulations.
  • Open only to eligible employees of the Kern County Department of Agriculture and Measurement Standards (Department Promotional).
  • You must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination routine.
  • Appraisal (100%) based on training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Enforce agricultural laws and regulations to confirm compliance with state and nearby standards.
  • Enforce weights and measures laws and regulations, such as inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices.
  • Run investigations and inspections related to agricultural solutions and commercial transactions.
  • Get ready reports and documentation on enforcement activities and findings.
  • Provide guidance and education to the public and companies on agricultural and weights and measures conditions.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and departments on regulatory matters.
  • Participate in court proceedings and permitted actions as needed.
  • Oversee or train lower-level team as assigned.
