Job Description
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), within the Department of Homeland Security, is hiring a Border Patrol Agent (Intelligence) for the Havre Sector Intelligence Unit (SIU) in Havre, Montana.
This GS-12 position focuses on collecting, analyzing, and disseminating strategic and tactical intelligence reports to support border security and law enforcement operations nationwide.
You will update national databases with information on smugglers, informants, and counterfeit operations, and use automated systems to identify trends and patterns.
Qualification
To qualify for the GS-12 grade level.. You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11.. Performing duties such as reviewing intelligence information.. Developing trends and patterns.. Collecting sensitive information on criminal activities.. And developing intelligence collection plans. This is a voluntary reassignment opportunity for current USBP GS-1896 employees with competitive status.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, including reviewing, processing, and evaluating incoming intelligence information from various sources.
- Experience utilizing creative methodologies to develop trends, patterns, profiles, estimates, studies, and tactical interdiction to solve unusual problems.
- Collecting sensitive information regarding criminal activities of aliens involved in alien smuggling, narcotics trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.
- Developing intelligence collection plans.
- Must be a current U.S. Border Patrol GS-1896 employee with competitive status in one of the following: current GS-1896-12 BPA, or current GS-13 or higher SBPA/BPA willing to take a voluntary change to lower grade.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
- Must have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years (waivers may apply).
- Must be proficient in the Spanish language (speak and read).
- Must meet firearms requirements under the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended by the Lautenberg Amendment.
Role Responsibilities
Collect, analyze, and disseminate strategic and tactical intelligence reports within CBP and to other law enforcement officials nationwide.
- Update national databases with collected information on smugglers, informants, and counterfeit operations.
- Use a variety of automated information systems for gathering intelligence and reporting on trends and patterns.
- Prevent illegal entry of aliens into the United States by land, water, or air.
- Enforce criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Laws.
- Seek out and apprehend smugglers or aliens who are in the United States illegally.
- Develop intelligence collection plans and coordinate sector-wide intelligence gathering operations.
- Analyze disparate facts, events, and other intelligence material to identify relevant information.
Conditions & Requirements
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years (waivers may apply).

- Must pass a background investigation and polygraph examination.
- Must meet job-related medical and fitness standards.
- Must be proficient in Spanish (speak and read).
- Must meet initial and continuing firearms qualifications.
- Subject to mandatory retirement under special law enforcement officer retirement provisions (CSRS and FERS).
