Job Description
The City of El Paso is hiring a Building Combination Inspector Supervisor to oversee and perform field inspections of new and existing residential and commercial buildings. You will ensure structures meet structural, electrical, mechanical, gas, and plumbing codes.
This role is ideal for experienced inspectors with supervisory skills who want to work in a dynamic municipal environment. You will lead a team of inspectors, coordinate inspection schedules, and enforce code compliance across the city.
Qualification
To qualify, you need a high school diploma or GED plus two years of residential or commercial inspection experience in electrical, structural, plumbing, and mechanical fields, or two years of housing inspection experience. Required certifications include ICC Residential Combination Inspector or ICC Commercial Building Inspector plus two other ICC Commercial certifications at application.

- Two (2) years residential or commercial inspection experience (electrical, structural, plumbing and mechanical) OR two (2) years of housing inspection experience.
- Valid Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
- International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential Combination Inspector OR ICC certification as a Commercial Building Inspector and two (2) other ICC Commercial certifications at time of application.
- ICC certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector (whichever applies) within six (6) months of appointment.
- Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners required within one (1) year of appointment.
- Submission of application to the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners required within six (6) months of appointment.
Role Responsibilities
Supervise, coordinate, and conduct field inspections of new and existing residential and commercial buildings.
- Ensure conformance with applicable structural, electrical, mechanical, gas, and plumbing codes.
- Oversee inspections of structures to identify violations and ensure compliance.
- Prepare inspection reports and maintain records.
- Provide guidance and training to inspection staff.
- Respond to complaints and inquiries regarding building codes.
- Enforce code requirements and issue notices of violation.
