Job Description

NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC is hiring a Carpenter to join the Public Performs Directorate at Naval Base Newport, RI.

In this role, you’ll construct and repair many structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim.

You’ll also produce finished items with accurate fits and correct dimensions, mill heavy lumber, slice bevels, rabbets, chamfers, grooves, and compound miter joints, and apply plastic laminates to wood surfaces.

This role contains interpreting drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently, repairing metal office furniture, and installing door and window sashes. This is a full-time, permanent post with a cover rate of $35.40 to $41.31 per hour.

The role is based at 9324 Virginia Ave, Norfolk, VA 23511, with work performed at Naval Base Newport, RI. Telework isn’t open. This role is perfect for experienced carpenters who can function independently and encounter the physical demands of the role.

Qualification

To qualify for this WG-9 Carpenter role, you must reveal through background and training the aptitude to perform carpentry operate without more than typical supervision. The screen-out element needs constructing and repairing wood setups, interpreting blueprints, and working power and hand resources.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Construct and repair wood and wood substitute layouts requiring close suitable and structural soundness.
• Mill weighty lumber, cut bevels, rabbets, chamfers, grooves, and compound miter joints.
• Register plastic laminates to wood surfaces such as counter tops and desk tops.
• Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently.
• Repair metal office furniture such as desks, chairs, and filing cabinets.
• Perform with hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, veneers, and gluing agents.
• Install door and window sashes and put in caulking and filler materials.
• Disassemble, swap, or strip worn items such as rollers, latches, hinges, and damaged tabletops.
• Construct and repair building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, and trim.
• Run power and hand utilities covering portable drills, saws, sanders, routers, and table saws.
