The North Slope Borough is hiring a Commission Clerk to support the Planning, Barrow Zoning, and Inupiat Language and Culture Commissions.

This role is responsible for organizing and coordinating commission activities, including serving as clerk and providing assistance to commission officials, departments, and the public.

The Commission Clerk will record verbal discussions, transcribe minutes, and work with the Records Technician to ensure the safe keeping of all commission files.

Qualification

Applicants for the Commission Clerk position should have experience in administrative support, record keeping, and meeting coordination. Familiarity with municipal or commission procedures is beneficial.

  • Experience in clerical or administrative support roles.

  • Knowledge of public meeting procedures and documentation.

Role Responsibilities

Record verbal discussions during commission meetings and transcribe minutes.

  • Coordinate public postings and notices with central office staff.
  • Attend, prepare, and distribute agenda materials and minutes for all regular and special meetings of the Planning, Barrow Zoning, and Inupiat Language and Culture Commissions.
  • Serve as secretary for the three commissions.
  • Work with the Records Technician for safe keeping of all commission files.
  • Attest by signing all required documentation.
  • Provide assistance and services to commission officials, departments, and the public.
  • Organize and coordinate a variety of commission activities.
