Job Description
As a Dental Assistant at the SHAPE Dental Clinic in Belgium, you’ll operate chairside with dental specialists to aid with restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, orthodontic, or periodontal treatments. Your function in this role contains taking intraoral and extraoral radiographs, preparing impressions, removing sutures, and placing rubber dams.
You’ll also schedule patients, chart treatment information, and supply post-treatment care instructions. This role is perfect for US citizens with dental assisting background or a related educational background who are set to back a military treatment facility overseas.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $37,937 - $48,377 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for this GS-5 Dental Assistant post, you must be a US citizen and gather the fundamental radiology certification condition under Public Law 97-35. Also, you want either one year of specialized expertise at the GS-04 level or completion of a qualifying dental assistant or hygiene plan.

- Radiology Certification: Must encounter credentialing standards in 42 CFR Portion 75 (e.g., completion of an accredited educational scheme and certification as a radiographer, or alternative certification such as DANB RHS exam).
- Specialized Know-how: One year of background providing chairside assistance, performing intra-oral procedures, keeping up patient records, and running dental X-ray equipment (GS-04 level).
- Education: Successful completion of a full four-year dental assistant or dental hygiene plan such as at least 24 semester hours in radiation physics, biology, safety, radiographic techniques, and film processing.
- Combination of Education and Expertise: A combination of education and experience that equals 100% of the conditions.
- Foreign education must be evaluated by a recognized credentialing offering to determine U.S. Equivalency.
- Volunteer know-how (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is credited if documented on resume.
- Resume must be two pages or less and clearly outline relevant background.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist dentist at chair side and perform intra-oral procedures as directed.
- Run dental X-ray equipment to obtain intra and spare oral radiographs.
- Grab preliminary impressions for study models.
- Take out sutures, spot and strip rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
- Receive and schedule patients for treatment.
- Chart examination and treatment details relayed by dentist into patient records.
- Obtain and record related medical history; route patient for medical tests and solutions.
- Relay dentist's instructions for post-treatment care and educate patients on proper dental techniques and care of appliances.
- Keep up dental equipment in wipe down and operative condition; store and uphold adequate supply levels.
