Extra Help* Traffic Control Maintenance Worker

Applicants must have the ability to fabricate and install traffic signs, operate road striping equipment, and perform physical tasks such as digging post holes and pouring concrete. No specific degree is required, but relevant experience in construction, road maintenance, or sign fabrication is highly valued.

• Ability to fabricate, paint, and install traffic control signs, legends, symbols, and devices per traffic codes and ordinances.
• Experience operating computerized layout equipment for sign design and production.
• Skill in operating and maintaining a specialized road striping vehicle with air, hydraulic, and airless paint systems and glass bead dispensing system.
• Ability to mix paint, load truck tanks, and prepare equipment and supplies for striping operations.
• Physical capability to use jackhammer, shovel, and post hole diggers to remove and replace signposts, and pour concrete to anchor posts.
• Ability to affix signs to posts at proper height and alignment.
• Experience preparing stencils, spacing and aligning stencils, and painting road surfaces.
• Knowledge of traffic control codes, ordinances, and safety standards.
• Valid California driver's license (or ability to obtain one) and a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field environment.

Fabricate, paint, and install traffic control signs, legends, symbols, and devices in accordance with traffic and vehicle control codes and ordinances.

• Remove and replace signposts using jackhammer, shovels, and/or post hole diggers; pour concrete to anchor posts.
• Affix signs to posts at proper height and alignment.
• Operate computerized layout equipment for sign design and production.
• Operate and maintain a specialized road striping vehicle with multiple air, hydraulic, and airless paint systems and a glass bead dispensing system.
• Paint striping and apply reflective beads on roads in accordance with relevant codes and ordinances.
• Mix paint, load truck tanks, and load truck with necessary equipment and supplies.
• Prepare stencils, space and align stencils, and paint road surfaces.
• Inspect and maintain traffic control devices and equipment.
• Assist with traffic control setup for special events, construction zones, and emergencies.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in outdoor conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• This is an extra help, non-benefitted position; no county benefits are provided.
• Must reside within Humboldt County or be willing to relocate upon hire.
• Ability to work in traffic zones with moving vehicles and follow safety protocols.

Competitive hourly wage of $21.64

• $27.77 per hour.
