Job Description
The County of Humboldt Public Works Department is hiring an Extra Help Traffic Control Maintenance Worker to support traffic safety across Humboldt County.
In this role, you will fabricate, paint, and install traffic control signs, legends, symbols, and devices in accordance with state and local codes.
You will also operate a specialized road striping vehicle with multiple paint systems and a glass bead dispensing system to paint lane lines and reflective markings on roads.

Role Responsibilities
Fabricate, paint, and install traffic control signs, legends, symbols, and devices in accordance with traffic and vehicle control codes and ordinances.
- Remove and replace signposts using jackhammer, shovels, and/or post hole diggers; pour concrete to anchor posts.
- Affix signs to posts at proper height and alignment.
- Operate computerized layout equipment for sign design and production.
- Operate and maintain a specialized road striping vehicle with multiple air, hydraulic, and airless paint systems and a glass bead dispensing system.
- Paint striping and apply reflective beads on roads in accordance with relevant codes and ordinances.
- Mix paint, load truck tanks, and load truck with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Prepare stencils, space and align stencils, and paint road surfaces.
- Inspect and maintain traffic control devices and equipment.
- Assist with traffic control setup for special events, construction zones, and emergencies.
Conditions & Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in outdoor conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- This is an extra help, non-benefitted position; no county benefits are provided.
- Must reside within Humboldt County or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- Ability to work in traffic zones with moving vehicles and follow safety protocols.
