Job Description

Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar, part of the Bureau of Naval Personnel, is hiring an Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support) to join its IT office at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.

This full-time, permanent GS-9 position focuses on securing and maintaining the brig's information systems, supporting both staff and prisoner networks, and ensuring reliable customer-facing IT services.

In this role, you will implement cybersecurity tools and procedures to protect network services, complete trouble-tickets and break-fix tasks to meet customer support requirements, and monitor IT project activities to mitigate risk.

Qualification

To qualify for this GS-9 position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service or private/public sector. Specialized experience must include coordinating security policies, managing user accounts, installing hardware, and performing network maintenance.

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience coordinating and executing security and information assurance policies, principles, practices, and controls to ensure security requirements are identified and in regulatory compliance.
  • Experience providing user accounts management; maintaining systems passwords; providing assistance and coordinating access privileges for prisoners and staff network systems.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware devices supporting the organization's Administrative Systems (IS), networks, and local operating systems and software.
  • Experience performing tests, maintenance, and technical analysis when required on network file servers, print servers, network cabling, workstation connections, network and standard printers, and the prisoner network.
  • Education substitution: A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree, in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, technology management, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in these areas.
  • All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
  • Volunteer work, including through National Service programs, is considered qualifying experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Role Responsibilities

Implement information systems cybersecurity tools and procedures to protect and restore information security systems and network services.

  • Complete information technology (IT) trouble-tickets or break-fix tasks to meet customer service support requirements.
  • Monitor information technology (IT) project activities to mitigate risk.
  • Discuss application-specific or enclave-wide operational issues with customers to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Conduct systems maintenance (e.g., upgrading, debugging) for continued system operability.
  • Coordinate and execute security and information assurance policies, principles, practices, and controls.
  • Provide user accounts management; maintain systems passwords; assist and coordinate access privileges for prisoners and staff network systems.
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware devices supporting the organization's Administrative Systems (IS), networks, and local operating systems and software.

Conditions & Requirements

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
