Job Description

The United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in Miami, Florida, is hiring an Inspector General at the GS-14 grade. This position serves as the Acting Command Inspector General, providing direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander.

Role Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance for inspections across the SOUTHCOM AOR to ensure findings meet regulatory requirements, identify root causes of deficiencies, and target fraud, waste, and abuse.

  • Oversee highly sensitive investigations and inquiries concerning character, suitability, and whistleblower reprisal allegations, evaluating evidence and witness testimony to compile legally substantiated reports.
  • Serve as the Acting Command Inspector General, representing the office with full authority at general officer briefings, DoD, executive branch, and congressional inquiries, and high-level interagency meetings.
  • Perform personnel management and administrative oversight for a joint office, managing the IG program's operating budget and executing strategic recruitment, performance evaluations, and internal control reviews.
  • Manage SOUTHCOM’s Intelligence Oversight program, blending systemic inspections, investigations of questionable intelligence activities, and training to ensure all intelligence operations conform to federal executive orders.
  • Develop complete recommendations for corrective action or policy revision based on inspection findings.
  • Evaluate operational and administrative programs for strict compliance with federal, DoD, and equivalent regulatory guidance.
Conditions & Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random testing thereafter, including reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel required 20% of the time.
  • One-year probationary period required.
