  • US Citizenship required.
  • Basic education requirement for General Engineer 0801, Civil Engineer 0810, Mechanical Engineer 0830, or Electrical Engineer 0850: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a combination of education and experience that includes professional registration (EI/EIT/PE) or passing the written test.
  • Basic education requirement for Architect 0808: Bachelor's degree in architecture with specific coursework (30 semester hours in architectural design, 6 hours each in structural technology, materials/methods, and environmental control systems), or a combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized experience: One year at the GS-12 level that includes (1) managing preparation of engineering and design products; (2) preparing independent government estimates for A-E negotiations; and (3) providing technical guidance on design engineering.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service to be equivalent to US accredited education.
  • Current active Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect (RA) license is required.
  • Resume must be two pages or less and clearly describe relevant experience.
  • Volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is credited as qualifying experience.
Role Responsibilities

Serve as senior design manager for planning, scoping, budget development, and contract oversight of highly significant designs.

  • Apply knowledge of management concepts and engineering/science disciplines to coordinate design efforts.
  • Manage difficult or unusual planning, scheduling, negotiation, and coordination tasks.
  • Coordinate with project delivery team members on planning, design, cost engineering, construction acquisition, and environmental considerations.
  • Act as mediator to resolve complex technical issues between engineering, design, contracting, and clients.
  • Review, modify, and approve A-E payment invoices based on progress, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Review design progress, measure performance, and take corrective actions to maintain schedule and cost.
  • Prepare independent government estimates for A-E negotiations.
Conditions & Requirements

  • Travel up to approximately 25% of the time.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a current active state Driver's License.
  • Must possess a current active Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect (RA) license.
  • One-year probationary period unless previously met requirements per 5 CFR Part 11.2.
  • Financial disclosure required upon entry and annually thereafter (DoD Directive 5500-7-R).
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. in regular performance of duties.
