Job Description

The U.S. Border Patrol, within Customs and Border Protection, is hiring a Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist for the Laredo Sector Headquarters, Targeting and Intelligence Division.

In this role, you will provide direct, real-time support to law enforcement officers by gathering, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence from multiple law enforcement databases and surveillance systems.

You will compile intelligence reports, analyze tactical video and sensor data, and communicate actionable information during ongoing operations.

Qualification

To qualify at the GS-07 level, you need one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05, such as compiling intelligence reports during law enforcement operations or using automated systems to determine status. For GS-09, you need one year of experience equivalent to GS-07, including creating intelligence reports and using national databases. Education may substitute for experience at both levels.

  • GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05, including receiving, compiling, and updating intelligence reports during real-time law enforcement operations; gathering and analyzing data from automated systems; directing officers using system-derived information; analyzing actionable information for officer safety; and identifying criminal history, warrants, and driver's license information.
  • GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07, including creating intelligence reports from extrapolated data; using law enforcement databases, video/sensor data, and geospatial information; using national databases to determine identity and removability; conducting real-time research across databases; and identifying criminal history and warrants.
  • GS-07 education substitution: One full year of graduate-level education or a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).
  • GS-09 education substitution: Two years of graduate education or a master's degree (or higher).
  • Combining experience and education: Qualifying combinations of graduate education and specialized experience may be used.
  • Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through programs like Peace Corps and AmeriCorps.
  • Current federal employees must meet Time-in-Grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade).
  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.

Role Responsibilities

Receive, compile, and update intelligence reports during real-time law enforcement operations.

  • Gather and analyze data from numerous automated systems to ensure quick and accurate status determinations.
  • Direct and advise law enforcement officers using information derived from automated systems.
  • Analyze actionable information during specific events that involve officer safety.
  • Identify and report criminal history information, active warrants, and driver's license information.
  • Create intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research, and analysis.
  • Use law enforcement databases, video/remote sensor data, and geospatial information to collect and analyze tactical intelligence.
  • Use national databases to determine identity, non-citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with immigration laws.
  • Conduct real-time, rapid research through a wide assortment of databases and information systems.
  • Provide multi-faceted analysis products including reports and real-time communication in support of intelligence and law enforcement operations.
