The Licensed Practical Nurse 2 (LPN2) at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) in Indian Springs, NV, delivers direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals within a secure correctional environment.

Qualification

To qualify for the Licensed Practical Nurse 2 position, you must hold a current license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada. Experience in a correctional or similar secure setting is preferred but not required.

  • Current license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Experience in a correctional, psychiatric, or acute care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Skill in conducting health assessments and monitoring vital signs.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a secure, high-stress environment.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification preferred.
Role Responsibilities

Administer prescribed medications and treatments to inmates.

  • Conduct routine health assessments and monitor vital signs.
  • Assist with intake screenings and sick call evaluations.
  • Respond to emergency medical situations and provide nursing interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
  • Educate inmates on health management and disease prevention.
  • Support chronic disease monitoring and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses, Physicians, and correctional staff.
  • Adhere to nursing protocols, state regulations, and correctional policies.
