Job Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse 2 (LPN2) at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) in Indian Springs, NV, provides frank nursing care to incarcerated people within a safe correctional environment.
Under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Physicians, you’ll administer prescribed medications and treatments, carry out routine health assessments, and monitor the physical and mental health status of inmates.
This role needs attentive adherence to nursing protocols, state regulations, and correctional policies to make sure the safety of both patients and workforce. You’ll assist with intake screenings, sick calls, and emergency medical situations, providing timely and fitting nursing interventions.

Qualification
To qualify for the Licensed Practical Nurse 2 post, you must hold a existing license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada. Experience in a correctional or comparable protected setting is preferred but not called for.
- Present license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada.
- Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Experience in a correctional, psychiatric, or acute care setting preferred.
- Understanding of nursing principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Competence in carrying out health assessments and monitoring vital signs.
- Aptitude to keep up correct and confidential medical records.
- Productive communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capacity to function in a safe, high-stress environment.
- Elementary life back (BLS) certification preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments to inmates.
- Run routine health assessments and monitor vital signs.
- Support with intake screenings and sick contact evaluations.
- Respond to emergency medical situations and offer nursing interventions.
- Maintain exact and confidential medical records.
- Educate inmates on health management and disease prevention.
- Assist chronic disease monitoring and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with Registered Nurses, Physicians, and correctional team.
- Adhere to nursing protocols, state regulations, and correctional policies.
- Ensure the safety and security of patients and workforce at all times.
Conditions & Requirements
- Must have a legitimate Nevada Practical Nurse license.
- Must be fit to pass a background check and security clearance.
- Must be capable to operate in a correctional facility environment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be available to perform shifts covering weekends and holidays.
- Must comply with all facility policies and procedures.
