Job Description
The Bureau of Prisons is hiring a Maintenance Worker Supervisor (Maintenance Worker Foreman) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Duluth, Minnesota. This full-time, permanent position (WS-08) pays $39.99 to $46.73 per hour and involves supervising inmate workers in the maintenance and repair of institution buildings and structures.
As a supervisor, you will train and oversee inmate crews in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, cement work, painting, welding, roofing, and other related trades. You will also be responsible for designing plans, reading blueprints, ordering materials, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and environmental safety procedures.
This role is ideal for experienced trades supervisors who can work effectively in a correctional environment. All staff share responsibility for maintaining institutional security, which precedes other duties.

Qualification
To qualify for this WS-4749 series position, you must meet the screen-out elements: Ability to Supervise and Aptitude for Work with Prisoners at the Barely Acceptable level. You must also receive at least half the total possible points and provide detailed resume evidence.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and train inmate workers in construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures.
- Oversee trades including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, cement work, painting, welding, roofing, and other related trades.
- Design and develop plans, specifications, and blueprint drawings.
- Adhere to safety procedures for hazardous material handling, OSHA requirements, and environmental issues.
- Order and purchase all material/equipment needed for assigned projects.
- Maintain security of the institution as a correctional employee.
- Perform staff correctional responsibilities on a regular and recurring basis.
