The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is hiring a Marine Engineer (Assistant/Associate) Professor for the Department of Marine Engineering at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.
This is a full-time, temporary faculty appointment in the Excepted Service, with an first term not to exceed two years.
Reappointments to additional one- or two-year terms are doable, and tenure may be achieved after four to six years, leading to permanent employment contingent on satisfactory annual performance appraisals.
As a Marine Engineer Professor, you’ll grow and carry out educational courses and programs within the Department of Marine Engineering. Function in this role contains academic counseling of midshipmen, pursuing skilled development, and sharing in departmental and institutional solution activities.

Salary & Compensation
Pay / Settle Package: $84,896 - $146,699 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for this Marine Engineer Professor position, you must gather education, licensing, and specialized expertise conditions. This role is unseal at both Assistant and Associate Professor levels, with differing degree and know-how thresholds.
- Assistant Professor: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or a related field (e.g., naval architecture, naval engineering, ocean engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering).
- Associate Professor: Master's degree from an accredited institution in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or a related field (same fields as above).
- At least 1 academic year (5 years for Associate Professor) of full-time or equivalent teaching experience at a college or university in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Sea service as a licensed engineer officer, relevant shipyard planning/production/scheduling/business operations background ashore, or power-plant operator expertise may substitute for teaching experience on a one-for-one basis.
- You must have a current (not expired) US Coast Guard License (or equivalent) sound for offering on US Flag Commercial Ships as a 2nd Assistant Engineer, Unlimited Horsepower. A valid STCW certificate is preferred.
- License substitution: Possession of a valid Skilled Engineer license in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, know-how as a shipyard superintendent or venture manager, shipping organization Port Engineer, US Navy Engineering Task officer (144X), US Coast Guard Naval Engineer or Marine Inspector, or a Master's degree (for Assistant Professor) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Role Responsibilities
- Develop and run educational courses and programs within the Department of Marine Engineering at the US Merchant Marine Academy.
- Offer academic counseling to midshipmen.
- Actively pursue expert development in marine engineering and related fields.
- Assume a portion of departmental and institutional solution activities.
- Contribute to curriculum development and assessment.
- Mentor students and support their academic and skilled increase.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and accreditation activities.
