Mechanical Engineer

To qualify for this GS-14 Mechanical Engineer position, you must meet both the Basic Requirement for professional engineering and one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level. The Basic Requirement can be met through an ABET-accredited engineering degree, a combination of education and experience, or alternative paths such as professional registration or the FE exam.

• A bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited program, OR a combination of education and experience that provides thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.
• Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) by any state or territory.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
• At least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that meet the basic requirements.
• A bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry) plus at least 1 year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
• One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, including: leading complex mechanical and structural design analyses using finite element analysis (FEA); coordinating all project phases from site selection to code compliance; negotiating contract proposals and technical terms; and managing program finances and presenting budgets to senior officials.
• Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).

Serve as Mechanical Engineer in the DLA Installation Management, Management Support Office, Task Force Support Office, Engineering Division.

• Facilitate transitions through the project execution phase and serve as Project Manager during all stages of project implementation.
• Manage high-level mechanical engineering programs and projects, providing advice to engineers, scientists, and trades contractors.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to determine project requirements, needs, limitations, constraints, and functionality to find the most economical solution.
• Manage all aspects of engineering and construction program finances, including preparation, negotiation, presentation, approval, and communication of pricing.
• Manage assigned design, construction, and alteration projects.
• Negotiate and coordinate project plans, budget objectives, and schedules with customer agencies to establish and manage expectations.
• Lead complex mechanical and structural design analyses, utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) to resolve structural stress and shock design problems.
• Coordinate all project phases from initial layout and site selection to final structural code compliance and on-site engineering inspections.
• Negotiate contract proposals and technical terms with private-sector firms and DoD construction agents.

• Required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to SCI and SAPs, including submitting to background checks.
