The Division of Child and Family Services is hiring a Mental Health Counselor 2 to work at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

DWTC is a secure, 24-hour inpatient psychiatric facility serving up to 20 Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) adolescents with complex behavioral health needs, including active safety risk.

Qualification

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for Mental Health Counselor 2 as established by the State of Nevada. Role Responsibilities

Conduct complete risk and suicide assessments for adolescents admitted to the facility.

  • Complete required documentation and reporting related to safety incidents and clinical interventions.
  • Evaluate and coordinate referrals for psychological testing, psychiatric evaluations, substance abuse treatment, and other specialized services.
  • Provide regular individual and family therapy sessions using evidence-based modalities.
  • Participate in admissions reviews and discharge planning meetings.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with treatment teams, families, and external stakeholders such as child welfare agencies and schools.
  • Provide weekly updates regarding youth progress to the treatment team and relevant parties.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Respond to crises and provide de-escalation interventions as needed.
  • Document all clinical interactions in accordance with state and facility policies.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be able to work full-time in a secure, 24-hour inpatient psychiatric facility.

  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • Must maintain licensure in good standing with the Nevada Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapists and Clinical Professional Counselors (or equivalent).
  • Completion of pre-employment drug screening may be required.
  • Must adhere to all facility security protocols and confidentiality requirements.
  • Travel may be required for training or meetings within the state.
