Nurse (Case Manager)

To qualify, you must be a current, permanent VA employee and meet the basic requirements: proficiency in English, graduation from an approved nursing program (ACEN or CCNE accredited), and an active, unrestricted RN license. Grade determination depends on education and experience.

• English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English (38 U.S.C. 7403(f)).
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time the program was completed.
• Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may be appointed temporarily upon obtaining a state license, then converted to permanent after graduation.
• Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration that meets the requirement for graduation from an approved school. Foreign education beyond associate degree requires equivalency validation (e.g., ICD).
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Grade Determinations: Nurse I, Level I: ADN or Diploma in Nursing. Nurse I, Level II: ADN/Diploma plus 1 year experience, or BSN. • Grandfathering Provision: Current VHA employees in the 0610 series performing duties as described in the qualification standard on 1/29/2024 are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held.
• Experience as an RN will be evaluated on five dimensions: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research.

Execute a simplify approach to receiving, triaging, and directing timely, coordinated care for Veterans in the community.

• Possess intimate knowledge of the internal referral care process, clinical review criteria, and utilization management.
• Demonstrate proficient practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and strong critical-thinking skills.
• Deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies (Nurse I, Level I).
• Integrate biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to clients with basic or complex needs (Nurse I, Level II).
• Demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning; self-directed in goal setting for managing complex client situations (Nurse I, Level III).
• Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving complete care through collaborative strategies with others (Nurse II).
• Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care beyond the immediate practice setting (Nurse III).
