Orientation and Mobility Specialist

Candidates must meet specific education and experience requirements. A bachelor's degree in orientation and mobility, rehabilitation teaching, or a related field is typically required. Certification by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) is preferred.

Assess customer abilities and needs to develop individualized instructional plans.

• Provide one-on-one or group lessons using experience-based learning and guided practice.
• Select appropriate canes, travel aids, and technology to support safe independent travel.
• Monitor customer development to ensure steady improvement and successful outcomes.
• Offer guidance and counseling to customers and families to reinforce skills and encourage independence.
• Document customer progress and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with other rehabilitation professionals and community resources.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

Must be able to travel within Dauphin County for client visits.

• Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
• Physical ability to demonstrate mobility techniques and assist clients.

Competitive salary range of $60,538
