Marion County Health and Human Services Housing and Residential Programs (HARP) is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join their team in Salem, Oregon.

In this role, you will use your lived experience with mental health, addiction recovery, problem gambling recovery, or supporting a family member through recovery to inspire hope and support individuals receiving behavioral health housing services.

As an essential member of the person-centered housing planning team, you will provide encouragement, advocacy, and practical support while helping individuals build skills, access community resources, and achieve their personal recovery goals.

Qualification

Applicants must have lived experience with mental health, addiction recovery, problem gambling recovery, or supporting a family member through recovery. This role requires the ability to share that experience appropriately to model recovery and self-advocacy.

  • Experience conducting outreach and engaging individuals experiencing barriers to treatment or services.
  • Skills training abilities to help individuals build independent living skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for advocacy and collaboration.
  • Ability to work as part of a person-centered housing planning team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Marion County may be required.
Role Responsibilities

Provide peer support, encouragement, and hope to individuals receiving behavioral health services.

  • Share lived experience appropriately to model recovery, resilience, and self-advocacy.
  • Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal recovery and wellness goals.
  • Conduct outreach and engage individuals experiencing barriers to treatment or services.
  • Connect individuals with community resources including healthcare, housing, transportation, education, employment, and other supports.
  • Provide skills training to help individuals build independent living skills.
  • Collaborate with the person-centered housing planning team to support client goals.
  • Document interactions and progress in accordance with program requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings and training as required.
  • Advocate for individuals to ensure access to needed services and supports.
Conditions & Requirements

Must have lived experience as defined in the qualifications.

  • Must pass a background check as required by Marion County.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings or weekends if needed.
  • Must comply with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
  • Completion of peer support training or certification may be required within a specified timeframe.
