Pharmacist (Service Chief)

To qualify for this GS-15 Pharmacist (Service Chief) position, you must be a U.S. Citizen and meet basic education and licensure requirements. The role requires a current, unrestricted pharmacist license and at least one year of experience equivalent to GS-14.

• United States Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy.
• English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program with a BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree. Foreign graduates must have FPGEC certification including FPGEE and TOEFL iBT.
• Licensure: Full, current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a U.S. state, territory, or D.C. Must maintain registration if required.
• Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS-14 level.
• Demonstrated KSAs: Skill in persuading others, effective communication, utilizing regulatory standards, managing multiple people/programs, using resources to support missions, and planning/organizing pharmacy staff functions.
• Preferred Experience: Prior VA Pharmacy supervisory experience.
• Grade Determination: Must meet GS-15 service chief assignment requirements, including budget management, resource allocation, and compliance with safety and accrediting body standards.

Plan, manage, and maintain complete clinical, distributive, logistical, educational, and administrative pharmacy programs.

• Supervise pharmacy staff and coordinate multifaceted pharmaceutical services for the AVAHS patient population.
• Establish and maintain policies and procedures for all pharmacy operations.
• Ensure controlled substances are regulated per VA and DEA regulations.
• Serve as the key point of contact for collaboration with healthcare professionals, patients, and administrative staff.
• Collaborate with academic affiliates to support pharmacy student rotations.
• Function as the authority on management and pharmacoeconomics to assure appropriate distributive services and rational drug therapy.
• Participate in medical center management discussions, decisions, and policy making.
• Consult and advise the executive team on all matters relating to the pharmacy service line.
• Participate in VISN and national advisory workgroups and represent AVAHS on boards and committees.
