Physician (Primary Care)

To qualify for this Physician (Primary Care) position at the VM 15 grade, you must meet basic requirements including U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited).. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.. A current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State or territory, and completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency training program.

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME or AOA, or other residencies deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred: Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency training and Board Eligibility. Board certification and 2+ years of primary care clinic experience are preferred, but new residency graduates will be considered.
• Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed VA physicians who met requirements under the previous qualification standard at the time of initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Evaluate and treat conditions of the skin, eye, ear, nose, throat, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urologic, reproductive, nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, and hematologic systems.

• Conduct initial and ongoing assessment of patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
• Obtain and document a complete medical and psychological history and physical examination.
• Order appropriate diagnostic tests and review and interpret laboratory results, taking appropriate action.
• Formulate and record diagnostic impressions.
• Refer patients for consultations with specialty clinics.
• Provide medical advice to patients, families, and community health providers by telephone.
• Manage chronic medical problems and minor acute medical problems.
• Document patient care in the electronic health record within prescribed time limits.
• Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing, etc.

• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
