The Veterans Health Administration is hiring a Physician (Rheumatologist) to join the Specialty Care Service at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.
This full-time position provides inpatient and outpatient rheumatology consults, follow-up care, and procedures for a diverse patient population.
The Rheumatologist will oversee an infusion clinic for biologics and IV bisphosphonates, review patients with fellows and clinical pharmacists, and manage no-shows, abnormal lab results, and refill requests. The work area also involves teaching and supervising Rheumatology fellows and trainees.

Qualification
To qualify for this Physician (Rheumatologist) position at grade VM 15, you must meet basic requirements including U.S. Citizenship (or exception if not possible to recruit qualified citizens), a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school, a current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State or territory, and completion of an ACGME- or AOA-approved residency training program leading to board certification eligibility.

- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
- Residency programs must be ACGME- or AOA-accredited; non-U.S. residencies require five years of verified U.S. practice and approval by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical and mental ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background/security investigation and pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required.
Role Responsibilities
Provide inpatient and outpatient Rheumatology consults and follow-up care.
- Evaluate patients with a variety of rheumatologic conditions and perform rheumatology procedures.
- Operate an infusion clinic for patients requiring biologics and IV bisphosphonates.
- Review and examine patients with fellows and clinical pharmacists.
- Manage no-shows, contact patients for abnormal lab results, and review refill requests.
- Provide ongoing care for patients with many rheumatologic conditions.
- Supervise and teach Rheumatology fellows and trainees.
- Complete mandatory training, credentialing, and chart reviews; adhere to VHA policies and medical staff bylaws.
