The Department of the Navy is hiring a Pipefitter Leader (WL-10) to serve at naval shipyards and facilities including Point Loma Complex in San Diego.. CA.. As well as Pearl Harbor.. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.. Philadelphia.. Norfolk Naval Shipyard.. And Puget Sound locations.
As a Pipefitter Leader, you will pass on instructions from supervisors, set the pace for the crew, and ensure that plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available. You will also maintain current knowledge of procedures and answer questions from other workers.
This role is critical to maintaining the Navy's fleet and infrastructure. The position is full-time and requires a security clearance, pre-employment physical, and drug testing. The pay grade is WL-10, with hourly wages ranging from $30.11 to $50.37.
This is a federal civilian position open to U.S. Citizens. The work area suits experienced pipefitters who have demonstrated leadership abilities and are ready to take on supervisory responsibilities in a shipyard environment.
Salary & Compensation
Estimated market salary: $95,000 - $175,000 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for the Pipefitter Leader position, you must demonstrate through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the WL-10 level. The screen-out element is ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on this element will be found ineligible.
- Ability to lead or supervise (screen-out element).
- Experience in pipefitting, including reading blueprints and laying out work.
- Knowledge of pipefitting tools, materials, and safety procedures.
- Ability to instruct and set the pace for other workers.
- Experience in a shipyard or industrial maintenance environment preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Role Responsibilities
Pass on instructions from supervisors to the crew and get work started.
- Set the pace for other workers and work alongside them.
- Ensure plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available for each job.
- Obtain needed stock from supply locations.
- Maintain current knowledge of procedures, policies, and written instructions.
- Answer questions from other workers on procedures and directives.
- Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with regulations.
- May be required to work uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
