DeKalb County is seeking a Plant Operator I (Water or Wastewater) to join its team in Decatur, Georgia. This full-time position involves operating and maintaining water or wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and public health standards.

Salary & Compensation
Salary / Pay Package: $43,011 - $66,669 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for the Plant Operator I position, candidates must meet specific education and experience requirements. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a valid Georgia driver's license. No prior water or wastewater experience is necessary, but the ability to obtain a Georgia Class IV Water or Wastewater Operator License within a specified timeframe is mandatory.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Georgia driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a Georgia Class IV Water or Wastewater Operator License within 18 months of hire.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor conditions.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Role Responsibilities
Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment processes to meet regulatory standards.
- Adjust chemical feed rates and equipment settings based on lab results.
- Collect water samples and perform basic laboratory tests.
- Inspect and maintain pumps, motors, valves, and other plant equipment.
- Record operational data and maintain accurate logs.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations promptly.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks and assist with repairs.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
