Police Investigator I

To qualify for the Police Investigator I position, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications established by the City of Mesa. The role requires experience in investigative or clerical work, preferably within a law enforcement setting. Specific qualifications are detailed below.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of experience in investigative, clerical, or administrative work, preferably in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment.
• Ability to operate computerized equipment and enter/retrieve data accurately.
• Knowledge of public records laws and evidence redaction procedures is preferred.
• Must pass a background investigation and drug screening.
• Valid Arizona driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

Perform redaction of audio and video evidence, including Axon videos and other footage, to comply with public records laws.

• Enter, update, and retrieve police-related data using computerized systems.
• Compile reports and maintain accurate records for the Criminal Justice Information Detail Unit.
• Assist with specialized investigative areas such as gang, neighborhood drug interdiction, photo safety, and towing.
• Support criminal justice information functions including intelligence, special investigations, and technical services.
• Respond to public records requests and ensure timely and accurate disclosure of information.
• Collaborate with sworn officers and other department staff to support investigations.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to department policies.

Must be able to work full-time or part-time as assigned; part-time positions are non-classified, at-will.

• Must pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal history check.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or obtain one within 30 days of hire.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
