Salary: $123,653 per year.
Qualification
This role is for candidates who don’t possess a California P.O.S.T. Academy Certificate or who have graduated from a California P.O.S.T. Academy but haven’t completed a patrol field training plan.
The San Jose Police Department doesn’t take on the California P.O.S.T. Waiver.
- Must not currently possess a California P.O.S.T. Academy Certificate.
- If graduated from a California P.O.S.T. Academy, must not have completed a patrol field training program.
- Police officers from other states and federal law enforcement officers without a California P.O.S.T. Academy Certificate are eligible.
- Must wrap up the written and physical agility exams before receiving an oral interview invitation.
- Must be capable to pass a background investigation and medical/psychological evaluation.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or have permanent resident status at time of submission.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
- Must have a sound California driver's license by time of appointment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Go to and successfully finish the San Jose Police Department's academy training scheme.
- Grasp and put in California P.O.S.T. Standards and department policies.
- Create expertise in community policing, de-escalation, and use of force.
- Participate in physical fitness training and defensive tactics.
- Study criminal law, report writing, and evidence handling.
- Engage with community participants to construct trust and partnerships.
- Respond to calls for solution under supervision during field training.
- Work department equipment and vehicles safely.

- Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Must be at least 18 years aged at time of appointment.
- Must have a legitimate driver's license.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must pass medical and psychological examinations.
- Must finalize the written and physical agility exams before oral meeting.
- Must be willing to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must comply with department grooming and uniform standards.

How You Will Be Evaluated
- Step 1: Hand in a Police Recruit application through the formal submission portal.
- Step 2: Self-schedule and finish the written exam and physical agility test.
- Step 3: Candidates who pass both exams will receive an oral meeting invitation.
- Step 4: Winning oral meeting candidates undergo a background investigation.
- Step 5: Conditional give of employment contingent on medical and psychological evaluations.
