The City of Red Wing is hiring a Production Technician to join the backstage crew at The Sheldon Theatre. In this hands-on role, you will operate and maintain lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail systems.

Duties include preparing the theater for rehearsals and performances, moving equipment and props, setting lighting and temperature, and returning settings after events.

You will assist with load-in, setup, and load-out of shows, run sound and lighting during events, and address basic maintenance such as light bulb replacement and equipment repair.

Qualification

Applicants should be hands-on with a positive attitude and an interest in theater production. Experience with lighting, sound, or stage rigging is preferred but not required; training will be provided.

Role Responsibilities

Operate backstage systems including lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail.

  • Prepare the theater for rehearsals, performances, and other events.
  • Move equipment, stage props, scenery, music stands, chairs, and other items as needed.
  • Set appropriate lighting and temperature for each event.
  • Return settings to building-empty state after activities.
  • Address basic maintenance issues such as light bulb replacement and building safety.
  • Assist with pre-show preparation and operate equipment as directed.
  • Work to meet the needs of artists regarding sound, lights, scenery, and rigging.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of audio-visual equipment.
  • Load in, set up, and load out shows.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment and props.
  • Comfortable working at heights (e.g., fly rail, rigging).
  • Valid driver's license may be required for local travel.
  • Must pass a background check if required by the city.
