Job Description
The City of Red Wing is hiring a Production Technician to join the backstage crew at The Sheldon Theater. In this hands-on role, you’ll work and keep up lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail systems.
Function in this role contains getting ready the theater for rehearsals and performances, moving equipment and props, setting lighting and temperature, and returning settings after events.
You’ll support with load-in, setup, and load-out of demonstrates, run sound and lighting during events, and address fundamental maintenance such as light bulb replacement and equipment repair.
This role is perfect for someone with a positive attitude who enjoys functioning behind the scenes in a reside performance venue.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $16 - $18 per hour.
Qualification
You should be hands-on with a positive attitude and an interest in theater production. Expertise with lighting, sound, or stage rigging is preferred but not called for; training will be supplied.
- Positive attitude and willingness to pick up.
- Aptitude to operate backstage systems covering lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail.
- Capability to move equipment, stage props, scenery, music stands, chairs, etc.
- Comfortable setting suitable lighting and temperature for events.
- Elementary maintenance expertise such as light bulb replacement and equipment repair.
- Capacity to operate as piece of a backstage crew and follow direction from the Director of Production.
- Availability for a full-time schedule including evenings and weekends as needed for events.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Run backstage systems such as lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail.
- Arrange the theater for rehearsals, performances, and other events.
- Shift equipment, stage props, scenery, music stands, chairs, and other items as needed.
- Place fitting lighting and temperature for each happening.
- Go back settings to building-empty state after activities.
- Address core maintenance problems such as light bulb replacement and building safety.
- Assist with pre-show preparation and work equipment as directed.
- Perform to encounter the demands of artists about sound, lights, scenery, and rigging.
- Aid with troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of audio-visual equipment.
- Load in, fix up, and load out displays.
Conditions & Requirements
- Must be fit to work flexible hours covering evenings and weekends.
- Physical aptitude to lift and relocate equipment and props.
- Comfortable operating at heights (e.g., fly rail, rigging).
- Sound driver's license may be needed for nearby travel.
- Must pass a background inspect if called for by the city.
