Job Description
The Veterans Health Administration is hiring an RN Clinical Nurse Educator at Edward Hines Jr. Hospital in Hines, IL. In this full-time permanent role, you will provide expert, evidence-based education to nursing staff across clinical and outpatient units.
You will perform learning needs assessments, develop educational trainings, and assist with orientation of new employees. This position is open to current permanent employees of the Edward Hines Jr. VA and its CBOCs, current VISN 12 employees, and current employees of the agency. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 0730-1600.
Telework and remote work are not available.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $80,018 - $149,392 per year.
Qualification
To qualify, you must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by ACEN or CCNE, or meet the bridge program exception. You must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
English proficiency is required.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time the program was completed.
- Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may be appointed temporarily upon achieving a state license, then converted to permanent upon graduation.
- Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration that meets the requirement for graduation from an approved school.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Grade determination based on education and experience: Nurse I (Levels I-III), Nurse II, or Nurse III as detailed in the qualification standard.
- For Nurse I Level I: Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no additional experience required.
- For Nurse I Level II: ADN or Diploma plus 1 year specialized experience, or BSN with no experience.
- For Nurse I Level III: ADN or Diploma plus 2 years experience (1 year at Level II), or BSN plus 1 year, or MSN with no experience.
- For Nurse II: BSN plus 2 years (1 year at Level III), or MSN plus 1 year, or Master's in related field with BSN plus 1 year, or Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field with BSN.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, evidence-based education to nursing staff.
- Deliver educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units.
- Perform learning needs assessments and develop educational trainings for clinical staff.
- Assist with orientation of new employees.
- Apply adult learning principles and adapt learning strategies based on assessment of learning needs.
- Provide care and counseling in promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury using the nursing process.
- Execute medical regimens including administering medications and treatments as prescribed by a licensed provider.
- Maintain primary commitment to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics).
- Evaluate human responses to actual or potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, and health counseling.
- Provide care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being.

- U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment; refusal results in denial of employment.
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background/security investigation.

- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all VA Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- May be required to serve a probationary period.
