The County of Humboldt is hiring a Road Maintenance Worker I/II to join the Rohnerville Crew. This position is responsible for inspecting and maintaining roadways in the Southern Humboldt area.

Crews perform roadside maintenance such as brush cutting and tree trimming, and maintain ditches by hand or machine since no chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides are used.

Duties include breaking and removing surfaces, digging, shoveling, hauling, and loading materials like spoils, sands, and asphalt mixes.

Role Responsibilities

Inspect and maintain roadways in the assigned area.

  • Perform roadside maintenance including brush cutting and tree trimming.
  • Maintain ditches by hand or machine without using chemicals.
  • Assess, repair, or replace drainage systems such as ditches and culverts.
  • Break and remove surfaces; dig, shovel, haul, load and unload materials.
  • Operate jackhammers, pavement breakers, concrete saws, tampers, and other tools.
  • Shovel, rake, roll, and iron asphalt; spray oil on surfaces.
  • Operate a variety of heavy trucks for material transport.
  • Sand seal surfaces and prepare for overlays.
  • Install, repair, and maintain culverts, ditches, and drainage structures.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be able to perform physical labor including lifting, digging, and operating equipment.

  • Valid California driver's license required.
  • May be required to work overtime or weekends as needed.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
