Road Maintenance Worker I/II (Rohnerville Crew) is listed by County of Humboldt. The County of Humboldt is hiring a Road Maintenance Worker I/II to join the Rohnerville Crew. This role is responsible for inspecting and keeping up roadways in the Southern Humboldt sphere.
Crews perform roadside maintenance such as brush cutting and tree trimming, and uphold ditches by hand or machine given that no chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides are employed. Perform in this role covers breaking and removing surfaces, digging, shoveling, hauling, and loading materials like spoils, sands, and asphalt mixes.
You’ll work jackhammers, pavement breakers, concrete saws, tampers, and various hand and power utilities. Other duties contain shoveling, raking, rolling, and ironing asphalt, spraying oil, working heavy trucks, sand sealing surfaces, and getting ready for overlays.
You’ll also install, repair, and keep up culverts, ditches, and drainage structures, excavate and evident roads and ditches, and perform traffic monitoring and control. This role is ideal for people who enjoy outdoor physical function and have expertise in road maintenance or construction.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $38,750 - $54,954 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for Road Maintenance Worker I/II, you must meet the minimum qualifications as outlined by Humboldt County. Experience in road maintenance, construction, or a related field is usually required, along with a legitimate driver's license.
- Background in road maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Aptitude to operate weighty trucks and various power resources.
- Knowledge of drainage systems and roadside maintenance.
- Valid California driver's license (or capacity to obtain upon recruit).
- Physical ability to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Aptitude to operate as portion of a crew and track instructions.
- Willingness to perform in varying weather conditions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect and uphold roadways in the assigned field.
- Perform roadside maintenance such as brush cutting and tree trimming.
- Keep up ditches by hand or machine without using chemicals.
- Assess, repair, or replace drainage systems such as ditches and culverts.
- Break and strip surfaces; dig, shovel, haul, load and unload materials.
- Run jackhammers, pavement breakers, concrete saws, tampers, and other instruments.
- Shovel, rake, roll, and iron asphalt; spray oil on surfaces.
- Work various hefty trucks for material transport.
- Sand seal surfaces and arrange for overlays.
- Install, repair, and maintain culverts, ditches, and drainage layouts.
Conditions & Requirements
- Must be capable to perform physical labor covering lifting, digging, and running equipment.
- Sound California driver's license needed.
- May want to work overtime or weekends as needed.
- Must pass a background verify and pre-employment physical.
- Capacity to work in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
