Job Description

The US Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) Safety Directorate is hiring a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist at the GS-12 level. This role is central to ensuring the safety of personnel and operations at one of the Army's premier test and evaluation facilities.

YPG conducts critical testing of military equipment in extreme desert conditions, making safety oversight essential. As a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, you will conduct compliance inspections of worksites to identify safety and occupational health deficiencies.

You will evaluate and advise on safety surveillance and enforcement programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and Army regulations.

Qualification

To qualify for this GS-12 Safety & Occupational Health Specialist position, you must meet one of the specified hiring authorities and possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Role Responsibilities

Conduct compliance inspections of activity worksites to identify operational, facility, or system safety and occupational health deficiencies.

  • Evaluate and advise on safety and occupational health surveillance and enforcement programs to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and OSHA safety standards.
  • Review safety training programs to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents causing injury or property damage and hazardous conditions that may cause serious injury or death.
  • Determine origin, causes, and/or contributing elements associated with safety and health violations.
  • Analyze mishap trends to determine a need for additional safety training for both Military and Civilian personnel.
  • Implement and monitor complete ammunition, explosives, industrial, radiation, range safety and occupational health management programs in support of ATEC test missions.
  • Conduct safety risk assessments of chemical, electrical, and physical worksite safety hazards and develop procedures to mitigate and/or eliminate those hazards.
  • Develop and implement accident prevention programs designed to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses in support of ATEC test missions.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. A background investigation and credit check are required.

  • Temporary duty (TDY) up to 5% to field locations is required, possibly in austere conditions (hot, cold, dust).
  • May be required to participate in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Training and wear NBC equipment or approved respiratory protection.
  • May be required to participate in field exercises alongside military counterparts.
  • Must meet Cyber work role qualification requirements (foundational within 9 months, resident within 12 months, 20 hours CPD per work role code).
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • This is a Career 12 Field position.
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized.
