The Consumer Solution Safety Commission (CPSC) is hiring a Senior Economist to cater to as an authoritative expert on the economic impacts of Commission actions. This role is in the Directorate for Economic Analysis, Office of Danger Reduction (EXRR) in Bethesda, MD.
Function in this role contains planning and carrying out major studies of the financial and economic effects of product safety standards, regulatory actions, and litigation.
You’ll analyze impacts on production prices, prices, employment, competition, industry layout, business practices, consumer behavior, and foreign trade.
Qualification
To qualify for this GS-14 Senior Economist role, you must meet the mandatory education need and have 52 weeks of specialized expertise equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized background must involve developing studies of economic impacts of item safety standards or regulatory actions, using various research and analysis techniques, and serving as a technical authority on economic or financial problems.

- Mandatory education: Degree in economics with at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR a combination of education and know-how equivalent to a key in economics.
- Weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent.
- Experience developing studies of economic, financial, or other impacts of solution safety standards or other regulatory or litigation actions.
- Expertise using various research and analysis techniques when assessing economic or other records.
- Background serving as a technical authority on economic or financial impacts or concerns.

- Volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is credited as qualifying know-how.

Role Responsibilities
Assist as an authoritative expert on economic impacts of Commission actions or proposed actions.
- Strategy, transport out, or run studies to boost analysis of societal expenses of injuries and upsides assessment.
- Conduct primary studies of financial and economic impacts of offering safety standards or other regulatory, compliance, or litigation actions.
- Analyze effects on production and distribution costs, prices, employment, marketing, competition, field setup, business practices, consumer behavior, financial conditions of firms, and foreign trade.
- Uphold a wide understanding of benefits estimation methodologies in the economic literature.
- Maintain and enhance the Directorate's approaches for estimating societal price of injuries and deaths.
- Use thorough insight of economic literature and techniques employed by other agencies to inform studies.
- Collaborate with other directorates and external stakeholders as needed.
Conditions & Requirements
This is a Public Trust Post; requires a background investigation and favorable suitability determination.
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must register with Selective Solution.
- Must finalize a Declaration of Federal Employment (OF-306) and background investigation forms.
- Must finish Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of I-9 identification.
- Must cater to a 1-year probationary period.
- Must reside in the nearby commuting sphere of the responsibility station (Bethesda, MD, transitioning to Washington, DC by end of 2026).
