The City of Morgan Hill is hiring a Senior Planner to lead professional activities within the Development Services Department. You will serve as project manager for current planning, long-range planning, special studies, and environmental review.

Qualification
Candidates must have substantial experience in land use planning, including project management and environmental review. A bachelor's degree in urban planning or a related field is typically required, with a master's degree preferred.
- Experience in current planning, long-range planning, and environmental review.
- Ability to manage complex planning projects from inception to completion.
- Knowledge of California land use laws, CEQA, and municipal planning processes.
- Strong analytical, writing, and public presentation skills.
- Experience with zoning codes, general plans, and development regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with developers, community groups, and city staff.
- AICP certification or ability to obtain within one year is desirable.
- Valid California driver's license.
Role Responsibilities
Manage current planning projects including subdivisions, site plans, and conditional use permits.
- Lead long-range planning efforts such as general plan updates and specific plans.
- Conduct environmental review under CEQA, including preparing initial studies and EIRs.
- Provide technical assistance to the public, developers, and city boards.
- Prepare staff reports, ordinances, and resolutions for Planning Commission and City Council.
- Coordinate with other city departments and external agencies on planning matters.
- Supervise or mentor junior planning staff as assigned.
- Represent the city at community meetings and public hearings.
Conditions & Requirements
Full-time position with occasional evening or weekend work for meetings.
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
- CalPERS retirement membership: 2.5% @ 55 for Classic members, 2% @ 62 for PEPRA members.
- Probationary period of 12 months.
- May require travel within the city for site inspections.
