The Municipality of Anchorage is hiring a Senior Plant Accountant (Senior Staff Accountant) for the Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility.

This advanced professional accounting role is directly responsible for capital projects and the asset continuing property records (CPR) for two legally separate Water and Wastewater Utilities.

The position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the union agreement.

Qualification

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; the Municipality cannot provide sponsorship. This position is open to the general public and current Municipal employees. AMEA-represented position.

  • Advanced professional accounting experience, preferably with capital projects and asset records.
  • Knowledge of continuing property records (CPR) and utility accounting principles.
  • Experience with government or public-sector accounting is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple capital projects.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Role Responsibilities

Perform advanced professional accounting work for capital projects.

  • Maintain and update the asset continuing property records (CPR) for Water and Wastewater Utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses related to capital assets.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other departments on capital project accounting.
  • Assist with audits and provide documentation as needed.
  • Reconcile asset accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.

  • This position is represented by AMEA and subject to the union agreement.
  • Remote work eligible only after successful completion of probation and with management approval.
  • Standard work hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Competitive hourly wage: $34.75
