The Sergeant is responsible for the overall supervision of subordinate security staff assigned to housing units.. As well as the supervision.. Custody.. And control of all inmates in those units.

This role is best-suited for experienced corrections professionals prepared to take on leadership tasks in a structured, safety-focused environment. Qualification

To qualify for the Sergeant position, you must meet the State of South Carolina minimum needs: a high school diploma and related expertise. Additional specialized training and know-how in corrections or security supervision are preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate security workforce assigned to housing units.
  • Supervise, custody, and control all inmates assigned to housing units.
  • Run routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
  • Investigate alleged misconduct of inmates and security personnel.
  • Support with carrying out proper and informal inmate counts.
  • Supervise role performance, carry out, and appearance of assigned security personnel.
  • Prepare employee evaluations and advise disciplinary actions.
  • Counsel and train subordinate team to called for performance standards.
  • Arrange reports as needed or needed.
  • Perform tasks of Shift Lieutenant when required.
