Qualification

This interdisciplinary position can be filled as a Clinical Counselor (0101), Psychologist (0180), or Social Worker (0185). You must meet OPM basic education requirements and have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, including supervision, FAP expertise, and clinical judgment.

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, including: directing and coordinating professional employees; providing supervision for evaluation, risk assessment, and treatment; maintaining expert command of FAP statutory requirements; and demonstrating expert clinical judgment in family violence dynamics.
  • Possess a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited program (CACREP, COAMFTE, CSWE, or APA) as outlined in SECNAVINST 1754.8.
  • Hold a state or U.S. territory license or certification to practice independently as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist, or Counseling Psychologist.
  • Have two years of full-time, post-master's supervised clinical experience.
  • Must pass a written examination if required by the licensing authority.
  • Volunteer work may be credited toward experience requirements.
  • All qualification requirements must be met before being considered for vacancies.
Role Responsibilities

Provide direct clinical services for the Family Advocacy Program (FAP), including safety and lethality assessments.

  • Conduct clinical treatment and intervention for individuals, couples, children, families, and groups affected by family maltreatment.
  • Serve as a community liaison to coordinate responses to child abuse/neglect and domestic abuse, including high-risk situations.
  • Conduct clinical interviews to assess behavior patterns, mechanisms, and symptoms.
  • Provide strategic clinical consultation to installation leadership, medical professionals, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Oversee complete clinical needs assessments and develop specialized treatment plans for victims and offenders.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of professional employees, including assigning work based on priorities and capabilities.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of FAP statutory requirements, policy directives, and compliance regulations.
