Job Description

U.S. Border Patrol is hiring a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (Programs) to lead law enforcement programming and mission-specific projects within the Spokane Sector, Law Enforcement Operations Division. This role directs operations, intelligence collection, logistics, technology, and training to support enforcement activities.

You will manage and evaluate USBP programs by analyzing data and metrics, recommending proven methods, and implementing changes to improve operational effectiveness.

This position is a temporary promotion not-to-exceed 3 years and is open only to current CBP employees in permanent competitive service positions and CTAP-eligible CBP employees.

Qualification

To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. This position also has an Individual Occupational Requirement for law enforcement experience. Spanish proficiency is mandatory.

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 performing duties such as: leading law enforcement projects or operations by planning work, assigning resources, and tracking results to improve arrest and detention of criminal suspects.
  • Developing and applying procedures or guidance for immigration or border enforcement, and using data to check if they are working as intended.
  • Coordinating with other CBP offices and outside law enforcement agencies to plan joint efforts, share information, and solve operational problems.
  • Supervising or leading employees by assigning work, giving technical direction, reviewing performance, addressing issues, and identifying needed training.
  • Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized experience in law enforcement demonstrating ability to make arrests, use firearms, deal effectively with individuals, analyze information rapidly, and maintain informant networks.
  • Must be proficient in Spanish (speak and read).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years (waivers possible for certain government-related absences).
  • Must pass a background investigation and/or polygraph, and drug testing.
Role Responsibilities

Direct law enforcement programming and mission-specific projects including operations, intelligence collection, logistics, technology, and training to support USBP enforcement activities.

  • Manage and evaluate USBP law enforcement programs by analyzing data and metrics, recommending proven methods, and implementing changes to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and liaison to support USBP operations and policy execution.
  • Oversee law enforcement and intelligence staff while managing key programs.
  • Coordinate with other CBP offices and outside law enforcement agencies to plan joint efforts, share information, and solve operational problems.
  • Develop and apply procedures or guidance for immigration or border enforcement, and use data to check if they are working as intended.
  • Lead law enforcement projects or operations by planning work, assigning resources, and tracking results to improve the arrest and detention of criminal suspects.
  • Supervise or lead employees by assigning work, giving technical direction, reviewing performance, addressing issues, and identifying needed training.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be a current CBP employee in a permanent competitive service position or CTAP-eligible CBP employee.

  • Temporary promotion not-to-exceed 3 years; may be returned to original position at any time.
  • Must meet firearms requirements under Gun Control Act and Lautenberg Amendment; no disqualifying convictions or restraining orders.
  • Must undergo and pass a medical screening process after tentative job offer.
  • Must pass a background investigation and/or polygraph.
  • Subject to drug testing under DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan.
  • Must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards.
  • Secondary law enforcement officer retirement coverage with mandatory retirement age and service requirements.
