Job Description

U.S. Border Patrol is hiring a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (GS-13) to lead enforcement operations at Wellton Station in Yuma Sector, Arizona.

In this role, you will supervise agents conducting border security missions, interpret and enforce immigration laws, gather and analyze intelligence, develop criminal casework, identify smuggling operations, and recommend solutions to operational problems.

You will ensure compliance with enforcement practices and may be involved in prosecutions.

Qualification

To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. This position also has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) for law enforcement experience demonstrating arrest authority, firearms judgment, and analytical decision-making.

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 performing duties such as interpreting and enforcing immigration or comparable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing intelligence from a variety of sources.
  • Developing case work pertaining to criminal prosecutions and investigations.
  • Identifying and investigating smuggling operations.
  • Devising and recommending solutions to operational problems and apprising management of identified deficiencies and solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with enforcement and operational practices.
  • Individual Occupational Requirement: law enforcement or other responsible work demonstrating ability to make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms.
  • Ability to deal effectively with individuals or groups in a courteous, tactful manner in connection with law enforcement matters.
  • Ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions or take appropriate law enforcement action in light of applicable laws, court decisions, and sound law enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
Role Responsibilities

Supervise Border Patrol agents in preventing illegal entry of aliens by land, water, or air.

  • Enforce criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Laws.
  • Seek out and apprehend smugglers or aliens who are in the United States illegally.
  • Interpret and enforce immigration or comparable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Gather and analyze intelligence from a variety of sources.
  • Develop case work pertaining to criminal prosecutions and investigations.
  • Identify and investigate smuggling operations.
  • Devise and recommend solutions to operational problems and apprise management of identified deficiencies and solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with enforcement and operational practices.
  • Maintain contact with a network of informants.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years (waivers may apply for certain federal employees, dependents, or study abroad).
