Job Description
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefits Administration, is hiring a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist (Assistant Coach) for the Denver VBA Regional Office in Lakewood, Colorado. This full-time, permanent position is remote-eligible and reports to the Assistant Fiduciary Contact Center Manager.
The Assistant Coach supervises a team of Legal Administrative Specialists, handling work assignments, performance management, and personnel actions. Duties include establishing performance expectations, conducting work critiques, developing improvement plans, and advising employees on work and administrative matters.
The work area requires flexibility to support various teams within the Veterans Contact Center. This position is open only to current, permanent employees of the Denver VBA Regional Office and CTAP-eligible displaced employees.
Salary & Compensation
Salary: $74,678 per year.
Qualification
Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-10 level.
- Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees must have held a GS grade at the GS-10 level for at least 52 weeks within the past 52 weeks.
- Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS-10 or above, counseling Veterans, dependents, and representatives orally and in writing on the full range of VA benefits and state/federal/local Veteran benefit programs.
- Education Substitution: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. if related.
- Combining Education and Experience: If you have partially met the experience and education requirements, you may combine them to total 100% of the requirement.
- Volunteer Experience: Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps), is credited.
- Part-Time Employment: Part-time experience is credited on a pro-rated basis; specify average hours per week in your resume.
- Education Accreditation: Education must be from an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Legal Administrative Specialists within the Fiduciary Contact Center.
- Plan, program, coordinate, and review all activities for the assigned area of responsibility.
- Advise the Fiduciary Contact Center Manager/Assistant Manager on daily operational problems and needs.
- Establish and communicate guidelines and performance expectations through the formal performance management system.
- Observe worker performance, conduct work performance critiques, and provide feedback.
- Develop work improvement plans and recommend personnel actions as necessary.
- Provide advice and counsel to employees on work and administrative matters.
- Review and approve or disapprove leave requests to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
- Affect disciplinary measures as appropriate under delegated authority.
- Support any individual team within the Veterans Contact Center as needed.
