Job Description

The New York Army National Guard is hiring a Surface Maintenance Mechanic (WG-5801-10) for its Logistics facility at 330 Old Niskayuna Road in Latham, NY. This full-time, permanent role involves diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying various combat, tactical, commercial, and special aim vehicles and equipment.

You’ll function on diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive lines, electrical systems, fuel injection, and emission controls. This role also covers hydraulic lifting, loading, and positioning systems. This is a Title 32 Excepted Service post requiring current membership in the NY National Guard.

Qualification

This role is open to existing Title 32 National Guard employees within the NYNG facility. Military grade need: Enlisted. You want general experience in routine maintenance and employ of frequent instruments, plus 18 months specialized know-how in complicated vehicle systems.

  • Understanding of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls.
  • Elementary insight of electronics sufficient to pinpoint and substitute defective components such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards.
  • Aptitude to repair or overhaul significant components covering diesel, multi-fuel, or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and overhaul of combat, tactical, commercial, and distinct purpose vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair, adjust, and uphold self-propelled transportation and other mobile equipment (except aircraft), including any unique aim capabilities.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical challenges using test equipment and technical manuals.
  • Overhaul and swap engines, transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, and other primary assemblies.
  • Repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, such as pumps, valves, cylinders, and lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, covering wiring, sensors, and electronic control modules.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and solutions according to schedules.
  • Keep up a secure and wipe down perform environment following established safety rules and regulations.
