The Sustainability Intern will work closely with city staff and community partners to advance Golden Valley's sustainability goals. Projects may include resilience planning, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and community outreach.
This is a full-time position with the possibility of part-time based on availability. The expected start date is on or around September 8, 2026. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in local government sustainability programs.
Qualification
Candidates should be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in environmental science, sustainability, urban planning, or a related field. Strong communication and project management skills are essential.
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a bachelor's or master's program in environmental science, sustainability, urban planning, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in sustainability and local government.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with data collection and analysis preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the city.
Role Responsibilities
Assist in the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and programs.
- Conduct research and data analysis on energy, waste, water, and transportation.
- Support community engagement efforts, including events and outreach materials.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and communications for city staff and the public.
- Coordinate with city departments and external partners on sustainability projects.
- Track and report on sustainability metrics and progress toward goals.
- Attend meetings and provide administrative support as needed.
