Job Description
The City of El Monte is hiring a Transportation Driver PT to join its Transportation Division. Under general supervision, you will operate buses and vans providing scheduled, special, and dial-a-ride services to the public.
This journey-level role requires independent judgment and initiative in performing a full range of transportation duties.
Qualification

- Knowledge of operational characteristics of buses and vans, including accessibility devices.
- Safe driving practices for public transit vehicles.
- ADA regulations regarding public transit operations.
- Methods of conducting daily vehicle safety inspections.
- Basic mathematics and cash handling techniques.
- Familiarity with El Monte geography, maps, streets, and landmarks.
- Principles of record keeping and data collection.
- Ability to operate transit vehicles skillfully and safely, including specialized equipment.
- Ability to respond decisively in emergency situations.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Role Responsibilities
Operate buses and vans for scheduled, special, and dial-a-ride transit services.
- Pick up and deliver passengers; assist disabled passengers using specialized equipment.
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance needs.
- Input passenger and route information via tablet or paper route sheet.
- Collect fares and verify passes; maintain accurate records.
- Make accident and incident reports; provide first aid as needed.
- Use two-way radio or cell phone to report service interruptions.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness; search for lost items and sweep bus windows.
