Job Description
The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is hiring a Transportation Engineering Technician (TRET Level 3) to join the Materials Section of the District Construction Organization in Burlington, Mineral County.
This position performs full-performance duties related to highway and bridge construction and maintenance, including planning, design, surveys, materials testing, construction inspection, utility placement, traffic operations, and bridge safety. The role is classified as exempt and at-will.
Candidates will participate in a training program requiring 180 Technician Development Hours.
Qualification

- Experience in highway or bridge construction, materials testing, or surveying.
- Ability to perform and supervise materials testing in field and laboratory settings.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex plans and specifications.
- Experience with construction surveys, including Chief of Party duties.
- Knowledge of sample selection, collection, and preparation for shipment.
- Ability to record determinations and certificates accurately.
- Completion of 180 Technician Development Hours as part of a training program.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
Role Responsibilities
Perform and supervise materials testing in the field and in district and central laboratories.
- Select and collect samples and cores; prepare them for shipment; ensure adequacy of coverage.
- Record determinations and certificates for materials tests.
- Perform, supervise, and coordinate construction surveys, including Chief of Party duties.
- Layout and stake drainage, grade, line, earthwork, curbs, and gutters.
- Prepare as-built reports and quantity surveys.
- Read and use complex plans and specifications.
- Review consultants' plans, specifications, and bid proposals.
- Assure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Participate in a training program requiring 180 Technician Development Hours.

- May require travel to project sites within Mineral County and surrounding areas.
