Job Description
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is seeking Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) for Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) in Gunnison, Colorado. TSOs are the frontline of aviation security, responsible for screening passengers, baggage, and cargo to prevent prohibited items from entering aircraft.
This role needs steady vigilance, professionalism, and the capacity to interact with the public in a high-stress environment. Perform in this role contains working X-ray and other screening equipment, carrying out pat-downs and bag searches, controlling terminal access, and responding to security threats.
TSOs must keep up concentrate amid noise, crowds, and time pressure, making critical decisions to guarantee safety. The role is full-time with shifts that may cover evenings, weekends, and overtime. New hires must finish up to six weeks of training away from the airport, with travel and expenses covered.

Salary & Compensation
Pay / Settle Package: $46,105 - $56,844 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for the SV-D cover band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must gather either the background or education need. Experience: one year of full-time operate in security, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician. Education: a high school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC certificate.
- At least one year of full-time function experience in security, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician, OR a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of submission.
- Selective Service registration called for for males born after 12/31/59.
- Must pass a structured meeting, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
- Subject to post-employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
- Must be proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
- Must be on offer to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
- Must meet physical demands: aptitude to squat, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, walk up to 3 miles per shift, and stand for up to 4 hours.
- Must have resided in the U.S. For three of the last five years, unless qualifying for an exception.
Role Responsibilities
- Run screening equipment (X-ray, metal detectors, etc.) to pinpoint dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers.
- Carry out physical searches such as pat-downs, bag searches, and lifting/carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points to make sure only cleared people access secure areas.
- Interact with the public, offer directions, and respond to inquiries in a courteous manner.
- Uphold center and awareness in a stressful environment with noise, distractions, and time pressure.
- Register risk-based security screening protocols and build effective decisions in crisis and routine situations.
- Engage in continuous development of critical thinking abilities to mitigate security threats.
- Adhere to all Standard Running Procedures and adapt to new data or unexpected obstacles.
