Qualification

Applicants must have the ability to operate heavy highway maintenance equipment and perform physical labor. This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) if not already held. Experience in highway construction or maintenance is preferred.

  • Experience with flagging and erecting traffic control signs and barricades.
  • Physical ability to shovel materials, clean culverts, mow, and cut brush.
  • Valid driver's license required; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Willingness to work in hazardous conditions and inclement weather.
  • Must be able to enter and progress through a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
Role Responsibilities

Operate motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axle truck, and snowplow.

  • Perform major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures.
  • Make minor mechanical repairs in the field, including changing tires, blades, or filters.
  • Conduct equipment maintenance: cleaning, lubricating, and checking fluid levels.
  • Flag traffic and erect traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects.
  • Shovel materials, clean culverts, mow, and cut brush as needed.
  • Work in hazardous conditions and inclement weather as required.
  • Participate in the U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program and complete progression requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) with possible overtime.

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in hazardous environments.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform physical labor.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a specified period.
