Job Description

The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is hiring a Transportation Worker 3 Equipment Operator to perform skilled work in highway construction and maintenance.

  • Experience making major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures.
  • Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs in the field, such as changing tires, blades, or filters.
  • Responsibility for maintaining equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and checking fluid levels.
  • Willingness to work in hazardous conditions and inclement weather.
  • Ability to perform related tasks such as flagging, erecting traffic control signs and barricades, shoveling materials, cleaning culverts, mowing, and brush cutting.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.

Role Responsibilities

Operate motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axle truck, and snowplow.

  • Perform major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures.
  • Make minor mechanical repairs in the field, including changing tires, blades, or filters.
  • Maintain equipment by cleaning, lubricating, and checking fluid levels.
  • Perform flagging duties and erect traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects.
  • Shovel materials, clean culverts, mow, and cut brush as needed.
  • Perform other related work as required.
