The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) is a U.S. Navy command headquartered at Patuxent River, Maryland, established in 1966. NAVAIR provides full life-cycle support of naval aviation aircraft, weapons, and systems operated by Sailors and Marines. Its mission is to deliver talent, capabilities, and infrastructure enabling rapid fielding of lethal, integrated air warfare capability and readiness. NAVAIR operates through multiple commands including Naval Air Warfare Centers (NAWCAD, NAWCWD, NAWCTSD), Fleet Readiness Centers, and Program Executive Offices (PEOs) for aircraft, training, unmanned aviation, and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
As of July 2026, NAVAIR continues to support naval aviation through recent achievements including the FRCSW Industrial Engineering Technology Team earning an award for updating over 900 component routes for the LM2500 engine, saving roughly 200 hours per engine.
