Job Description

The Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department supports service members, their families, and civilian employees through fitness, recreation, lodging, and food services.

This Custodial Worker position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Food and Beverage division at the All American Restaurant on Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton. As a Custodial Worker, you will maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the restaurant and surrounding areas.

Duties include vacuuming, mopping, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, dusting furniture, washing windows, and disposing of trash.

Qualification

To qualify for this Custodial Worker position, you need the knowledge and skill to read signs and follow simple oral and written instructions. You must be able to work safely while moving lightweight objects and operate janitorial tools and equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds.

Role Responsibilities

Vacuum clean rugs and draperies; shampoo rugs and upholstery.

  • Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment.
  • Adjust and change buffers, brushes, and other attachments as needed.
  • Dust, wax, and polish office furniture; dust ledges and woodwork.
  • Empty cigarette disposal cans and waste baskets; dispose of trash and recycling waste appropriately.
  • Clean glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls, and ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Move and set up tables, chairs, and other equipment as required for events.
  • Maintain restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition; clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, sinks, and toilet bowls.
  • Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
  • Clean mirrors and water fountains; perform light maintenance such as changing light bulbs.
Conditions & Requirements

Must be 18 years old or older.

  • This position involves work on workdays and may involve weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
  • Physical exertion: standing and walking for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor; unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.
  • Selectee may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government-issued Travel Card if travel is required (more than twice per year).
