Job Description

The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) is hiring a Nurse for White Elementary School at Fort Benning, Georgia. This intermittent position (up to 30 JUN 2027) focuses on student health during school hours.

You will provide classroom health instruction, individual student counseling, and emergency care for illnesses or injuries following standard first aid guidelines.

You will maintain health records, collaborate with teachers and school staff to interpret pupil health status, and participate in establishing, managing, and evaluating a complete school health program.

This role is ideal for a licensed registered nurse with a BSN who wants to work in a school setting on a flexible, as-needed basis.

Salary & Compensation

Salary: $38.86 - $57.05 per hour.

Qualification

To qualify for this Nurse position, you must be a U.S. Citizen and meet the education and licensure requirements. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and successful completion of the NCLEX are required.

You must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted RN license from a U.S. State, DC, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory, verifiable through NCSBN.

  • Successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted RN license from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • License must be verifiable through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) database.
  • License must be maintained throughout employment with DoWEA.
  • A bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing is acceptable only if you possess the required RN license.
  • Nurses from Puerto Rico must show proof of passing the NCLEX.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service to determine U.S. equivalency.
  • Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction and individual student health education and counseling.
  • Provide emergency care for illness or injury occurring during school hours according to standard first aid guidelines.
  • Maintain health information and documents.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to interpret pupil health status.
  • Participate in the establishment, management, and evaluation of a complete school health program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to student health and wellness.

Conditions & Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination based on a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks due to interaction with children under 18.

  • You will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 agreeing to random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions from the Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • This is a temporary position that may be extended in one-year increments.
