The Information Technology Specialist (Network) position is located within the Information Management Division (IMD) at Naval Hospital Jacksonville (NHJAX) in Jacksonville, Florida.

Qualification

To qualify for this GS-11 Information Technology Specialist (Network) position, you must be a US citizen and meet one of the following: one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09, a Ph.D. Or equivalent doctoral degree, or a combination of graduate education and experience.

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in Federal service, including working with network operations to evaluate or remedy systems administration or compliance issues, and developing modifications to system parts requiring significant revisions in logic or techniques.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate competencies in Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.
  • Education substitution: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, engineering, or technology management, with at least 24 semester hours in development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
  • Combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is preferred.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to U.S. accredited education.
  • Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).

Role Responsibilities

Execute procedures and coordinate corrective action to optimize network performance.

  • Implement plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state-of-the-art software distribution methods.
  • Analyze equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify problem areas and establish end-to-end systems performance levels.
  • Use benchmarks and performance measurement data to manage network servers and data communication devices for normal and surge workloads.
  • Document and track changes to configuration, protocol, and user/system files.
  • Use remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol, and user/system files.
  • Evaluate the performance of network devices such as servers, workstations, peripheral devices, and remote access systems.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs.
Conditions & Requirements
